Stan Lee & Edison toons make way for Asian nets
Genius Brands International has secured deals with three new broadcasting partners in Asia for its popular animated kids properties.
Singapore’s Mediacorp television network and Indonesia’s Spacetoon have both acquired broadcasting rights to Genius Brands International’s 90-minute superhero feature Stan Lee’s Mighty 7, along with 26 half hours of science-themed comedy adventure series Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab (pictured).
Spacetoon has also snapped up 26 half-hour episodes of Genius Brands’ Secret Millionaires Club, while Hong Kong’s TVB has licensed rights to Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab.
Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab recently launched on Discovery Kids Asia after its fall debut on 160 US public TV stations and on the new Kid Genius on-demand channel. The series explores the virtual reality adventures of a 12-year-old science prodigy named Angie.
As the series’ broadcasting reach expands, the property is also branching out into live shows, toys, apps, apparel and other consumer products categories in the next year.
Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 is the first of three features starring an animated version of the iconic comic book author, produced by Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment joint venture Stan Lee Comics.
These latest sales come on the heels of a recent deal that will see Genius and Sony partner on a new kids music label called Genius Brands Music.
